A major publishing house commissioned 5 original paintings for book covers of a new western trail series. These proved to be among the most action-packed, complicated paintings at that point in my calling as an artist.
A fun and challenging engagement!
Working with the publisher to get a feel for their vision for the cover. Each painting needed to be exciting and authentic to grab attention on the book shelf. I needed to save space at the bottom for future copy to be placed. Yet, the scene needed to stand on it's own, without type, to shine as a fine art painting. Concept sketches led to producing photo shoots to gather reference. Final sketches provided my reference when it was time to paint. And bring a vivid image to life.
Books were published in hard copy, and a couple were produced on CD. The titles may be found on Penguin Random, Amazon and possibly your local library.
All original oil paintings have been sold to private collections.
