Sometimes when life hands you lemons, you just have to make lemonade. That's just what our heroine in "Roadside Attraction" has decided to do. After all, it's a beautiful Summer day, the view is amazing and new friends can be found everywhere you look. Of course, her driver has a bit of a different take on the day.
I decided to set this early 1930's painting in the Granite Dells near my home in Prescott, AZ. It's such a beautiful place that has these unique granite rock formations. Tom Mix had a ranch home and filmed many of his movies here and I thought it was the perfect setting for this period piece. The car is a 1928 Ford Model A Tudor. Since cars of this era, especially in the American West, didn't have very good roads to drive on, I made sure to paint it with the many dings that it would have gotten along the way. But I love these cars and think they look beautiful no matter how beat up they might get. This Model A was offered a few different colors, including this maroon with black fenders.
